We’ve all been there. List of verbs and endless tasks, going blank when you want to speak the language, facing moments when you think about giving up everything. Continue reading and stop laziness when learning Spanish with these 6 tips

Tip #1

Keep your “Why” Front and Center !

Maybe because you wanted to communicate with neighbours. Maybe because you didn’t want to feel more isolated after all these years in beautiful Spain. Maybe because you want to feel this country is like home. There could be a million reasons but find YOURS and remind yourself what you want to achieve.  Whatever your motivation, keep it fresh in your mind!

We all need a REASON why we are doing things, especially our brain 🙂

Don’t forget your REASON writing it down in your notebook, sticking a post-it in your office or in your Spanish grammar book.

Tip #2

Plan your week for success

Set yourself up for Spanish success by creating a weekly study plan that fits into your life. When you’ve got a clear, manageable schedule, learning feels easier and much more motivating!

Start small: set weekly goals and break them down into little steps. With each one you tick off, you’ll feel closer to your goal and less likely to procrastinate.  I love habit trackers for that.

And ask yourself along the way: am I using a study method that works for me? The right approach can make all the difference!

Tip #3

Connect and Practice with Others!

Learning Spanish gets a lot easier (and more fun!) when you practice with others.

How?

Find a classmate who shares your motivation, or join a group of native speakers to exchange experiences and conversation. You can join my monthly language exchange if you are in Ayamonte. It is an experience you won’t forget. Contact me HERE for more info.

Language is meant to be spoken, and practicing with real people makes everything feel more natural and practical. It might feel intimidating at first, but you’ll be surprised how quickly your confidence grows once you take that step!

Tip #4

Motivate Yourself with Little Rewards!

Keeping your motivation high is easier when you reward yourself for each milestone. Treat yourself to something special for all your hard work—maybe a Spanish book you’ve been eyeing, a delicious treat like Spanish chocolates or cheese, or even a new notebook for your class notes.

You could even plan a trip to Spain or a Spanish-speaking country to really put your skills to the test!

These small rewards celebrate your progress and keep you excited for what’s next.

Tip #5

Create your Spanish heaven!

Have you ever felt like you cannot concentrate because there is too much noise/light/things going on in a certain space? (Or maybe it’s just me) .

Be careful! This can be influencing the way you are learning. This is why I recommend you to have a comfortable space (or corner) where you can dedicate your time to Spanish. Whether it is at home or in the park, feel like you are in the right place.

Tip #6

Please, don’t get bored!

I still remember the time when my English teacher made me read all those long and boring stories that just made me want to finish the class as soon as possible. I loved English but not the materials or the way it was being taught (fortunately it wasn’t like this all the time).

This is why I recommend you to use things that motivate you, especially if you are learning by yourself and reinforcing some content.

Here you have some examples:

  • Listen to podcasts, news and even watch videos on YouTube on topics that interest you.

I love history, culture or yoga. What about you?

  • Use mobile applications that make the learning experience more fun: Duolingo, Babbel, Memerise.

I’m a Duolingo fan myself. Learning Polish is my latest pleasure.

  • Watching television series is also a good idea if you already have a good level. Platforms like Netflix, Disney+ or Filmin in Spain are a good source of international series and documentaries with which you can add a little more of the language to your life.

Who doesn’t like an evening at home watching a good tv show? Now you can tell your friends that “you are studying Spanish”.

Have you tried any of those tips? Did they work? I’m looking forward to hearing more!

By the way, I have a little gift for you. This guide will make you understand more about Spanish life. Here you have it.

¡Hasta la vista!
